Bizarre foods Korea: Beondegi (silk worm larva)

May 30, 2011

You can smell it as you walk by.  You gag as the distinct smell lingers in your nose.  You wonder…why the hell are these people eating this?!

This is Beondegi, silk worm larvae that is boiled in a big pot and sold by street vendors.

After a great day exploring Seoul Grand Park and the Seoul Zoo, I convinced two friends to try it.   Here is a short clip of what tasting these bugs is like for most foreigners.   Britt has also appeared in the first “Bizarre Foods” video.  (Seems as if I’ll have to make these tastings a trend with her…) I had to stop the video because I couldn’t contain my laughter.

Don’t worry, I’ve tried them before.
